[ kyouko chooses the koi door, simply because she likes it best in terms of design. looking around inside she begins a full, methodical search...
though the contract on one wall does catch her eye. ]
"Clarence Vanderweele, Georgia Mahoney, Phillip Spinnato and Myrtle Cavendish will embark on a venture to begin saving worlds that are being destroyed across the universe. They will organize rescue teams to scout various worlds and collect "seeds", though what this entirely means isn't made clear. These seeds will then be brought to a safe haven to foster and grow to preserve the worlds while the four founders of the city design the new universe."
Eh? [Hearing Kyouko down the hall, Ayano walks over and peers inside the koi room where Kyouko is reading aloud. Saving worlds? Seeds? Is this language trying to discuss something else or is it...literal. It sends a chill down her spine, as she pushes upon the wolf door, where upon entering she immediately traces her fingertips over the wall, peering at the chart and contract.]
Oh...it's the same. Vanderweele, Mahoney, Spinnato, Cavendish...[Ayano commits the names to memory and then––]
Ah! [Ayano then quickly darts out of the room and opens up the other doors, checking to confirm her hypothesis that the contract is the same in each of them. She calls out to speak to Kyouko, as they're not neccesarily at the same room at any given moment.]
Four names, four doors...Did these guys live here? The founders of Retrospec must have hung out in this bunker...[Taps her index finger to her chin as she thinks, scanning the doors again.]
I wonder who's who? And...I wonder if there was something bad going on outside that forced them to have to live in here.
...Hey. How long ago might this have been, anyway? [Not really ready to confront the big questions about the worlds being destroyed or whatever.]
...I'm not certain. If we take into account "unreality" and "reality"...I get the feeling our usual concepts of time may not hold as much weight as we think they do.
Stuff to file away for later, I guess. [Waves a hand in Kyouko's direction, regardless of if she can see it.]
Make sure to take some pictures and notes that we can look at later...
[And stamps back to the would-be reception desk. She spends a moment or two messing around with the rotary phone, seeing if it can call anyone, or anywhere, but doens't have much luck. Or any.]
Seems like the kind of place you'd hunker down for a long time, but...There's not really a lot going on, either? Maybe there's a secret passage to a larger complex? With a bunch of canned food or something...[Absentmindedly, she picks up the typewriter and moves it as she continues exploring the reception area. It takes her a little while to even notice the hidden letter, but she quickly snatches it up and starts reading.]
Oh...Woah. It's addressed to one of those guys, and...
"Due to the unspeakable acts caused by you and your hand in the demise of Phillip's family line, by order we declare that you are no longer fit for this operation. You will be held in a facility elsewhere to await for sentencing.
Our operation began as a preservation of life, not simply your own. We will begin restructuring to undo the damage immediately."
Kyouko! Um, you might want to come check this out... Another facility? Sentencing? Vanderweele...This might be part of the reason for the unreality! Or...Or something!
[What a gratifying moment of discovery! She's terrified by the context of the letter and this whole investigation but...She can't help but smile a bit at her apparent usefulness in this scenario.]
It looks like the woods, so...I think we can probably walk out without going back into that maze. I'll contact some people I know are looking into information, but it does appear to hold up with what I learned at the last info swap.
[ which she attended like a fucking nerd. ]
More evidence is always good, particularly when the story is so very strange.

[ and though ayano read the entire thing, she'll slowly read over the letter herself. ]
...Vanderweele. That's one of the names mentioned a few times by those teams who reported information found in August...?

I...haven't kept up enough to know, so I'll have to do some research when we get back and compare the stuff we found out about here.
[She takes another look around after passing the letter to Kyouko, though it's starting to seem like there's not much left to discover.]
I think...what we found might be really important. No, it's definitely important.
Four identical rooms, four founders...Vanderweele...Phillip Spinnato.
[Wags a finger.]
We should contact some of the people from August and share what we found out with them as soon as we get back...
[Blinkblink.]
From...wherever this is.
